This two-week residential camp will be held in Bukistsikhe, Guria, a historic village about six hours west of the capital city, Tbilisi.
Participants will work on tuning, ornamentation, and vocal production under the instruction of Malkhaz Erkvanidze, the director of Ensemble Sakhioba, and other members of the ensemble.
We will study folk and sacred music from different Georgian regions, learning mostly by ear. Folk dancing and instrumental instruction will also be offered.
Housing will be with local families. Excursions to historic monasteries in the area are also part of the program.
RESIDENTIAL CAMP: AUGUST 1 - AUGUST 10, 2013 $1000 - Includes transportation to and from Tbilisi airport, three meals per day, room and board, and music instruction. Excludes airfare.
